How to Prepare for a Balloon Show: What Parents Need to Know
So, you booked a balloon show—awesome! Whether it’s your first time hiring an entertainer for a big event or your tenth, you probably want everything to run smoothly and make sure the kids have a blast. Good news: it totally can.
This post walks you through exactly how to get ready for a balloon show at your home, venue, or party space. No stress—just a quick guide to help the day go off without a hitch.
Choose a Spot That Works
You don’t need a stage—just a clear area indoors where kids can sit on the floor and see the show. A living room, community room, or play space works great. Rugs or mats help kids know where to sit and stay engaged.
Whenever possible, the show works best indoors. An indoor space helps keep kids comfortable, makes it easier for everyone to see and hear, and allows the show to run smoothly without interruptions. Outdoor shows are possible, but heat, sun, wind, and other environmental factors can affect visibility, focus, and overall enjoyment. If the show is outdoors, a fully covered, weather-safe space with minimal wind is important, and having an indoor backup plan is highly recommended.
Minimize Distractions
Turn off music, TVs, and other background sounds before the show begins. Pick up toys and clear the performance area of distractions. Ideally, the show space should be free of snacks and party favors (especially noisemakers!) to help keep focus up front.
Full tummies and empty hands make for a great show!
Set Up Simple Seating
Kids up front on the floor, adults behind in chairs—that’s the sweet spot. Toddlers or very young kids should sit with an adult, especially if they’re extra wiggly or likely to wander.
Schedule the Show Thoughtfully
Plan for the show to start about 30 minutes after the party begins. That gives guests time to arrive, settle in, and helps the show kick off with the right energy.
Save cake and presents for after the show for a smooth transition!
I Bring the Gear—Just Save Me a Spot
I’ll arrive 15–20 minutes early to set up. I bring my own sound system, supplies, and everything I need. My show and party package is completely self-contained—I appreciate the offer, but I won’t need a table or chair!
Since I bring quite a bit with me, if possible, reserve a nearby parking spot so I can unload easily.
Let the Kids Focus—Let Me Handle the Crowd
I’ve got the crowd covered—no need to micromanage. I’ll keep the kids laughing, engaged, and entertained. You can sit back and enjoy the moment (or snap a few great photos!).
Tell Me Anything I Should Know
If your child is shy or prefers not to be in the spotlight, or if any guests have special needs or sensory sensitivities, just let me know ahead of time—I’m happy to adjust.
Parts of my show include intentional balloon popping, and there’s always the chance for a few surprise pops (balloons have a mind of their own!). I also use music and dancing during the show. With advance notice, I can make accommodations.
Mini FAQ
Q: How many kids can attend the show?
A: As many as your space allows! I adjust based on the group size.
Q: Do all the kids get a balloon?
A: The show is a performance, not a balloon giveaway—but the birthday child always receives a custom balloon surprise, along with any volunteers who help me “on stage.”
If you’ve booked balloon twisting after the show, that’s when I’ll create balloons for guests. You did book the full Big Balloon Bash, right?
Q: What if we’re outside?
A: Outdoor shows are possible, but the best experience for guests is almost always indoors. An indoor space allows kids to stay comfortable, see the action clearly, and stay focused throughout the show.
Outdoor environments can introduce distractions and challenges such as heat, sun, wind, and background activity, which can make it harder for kids to see, hear, and stay engaged. If the show must be outdoors, a fully covered, weather-safe area with minimal wind is best, and an indoor backup space is strongly recommended to ensure the best experience for your guests.
Q: What if my space is small?
A: That’s totally fine! I’ve performed in everything from living rooms to gymnasiums. If your space is on the smaller side, just let me know the approximate size and we’ll figure out the best setup together.
Final Thoughts
The simpler the setup, the better the show—and it really doesn’t take much. A clear space, a little quiet, and kids ready to have fun are all we need to create something amazing.
Thanks again for choosing live entertainment! If you have any questions before the big day, I’m always happy to help.
